Ninjas fend off Muggers

Ninjas scared off three men who were attacking a 27-year-old German medical exchange student in an alleyway outside their warrior school, the Sydney Morning Herald newspaper reported on Wednesday.

One of the teachers saw the attack and instructed the students, who were decked out in their black garb, to go out and confront the muggers.

"You should have seen their faces when they saw us in ninja gear coming toward them," the school's sensei, or master, Kaylan Soto, told the newspaper.

Another ninja, Steve Ashley, said: "It was probably the worst place in Sydney where they could have taken him."

The plant, found in the Philippines, snares insects and rodents at which point it dissolves them with a special enzyme. The plant has been named "Nepenthes attenboroughii" in honor of David Attenborough, the famous and Knighted wildlife documentary dude.

Authorities say a man died after falling into a vat of melted chocolate in a New Jersey processing plant.

A spokesman for the Camden County prosecutor's office says the 29-year-old temporary worker at the Cocoa Services Inc. plant fell after a blade used to mix raw chocolate hit him. His name has not been released.

The accident happened Wednesday morning as the worker was loading chocolate into the vat where it's melted and mixed before being shipped elsewhere to be made into candy.

Prosecutor's spokesman Jason Laughlin says a co-worker tried to shut off the machine and two others tried to pull the man out of the 8-foot-deep vat.

I remember watching "Babe" when I was growing up. We weren't really allowed to watch typical Disney cartoon movies, so we watched a lot of animal movies, you know, the stereotypical family film. Well, Babe impressed me -- a pig that can herd sheep? Awesome!

On a completely different topic, the First Lady is trying to promote healthy eating by planting an organic garden at the White House. The food grown there will be used in the White House kitchen and be grown/harvested by the local school children. Woo! Child labor rules! ... and is totally cheaper than WholeFoods.

Last but not least, cage fights. First let me say -- God Bless Texas. It turns out that a highschool in Dallas has been holding Cage Fights to let students "duke out their problems". Wow, and I thought my school was tough.

It turns out we have our first Bat-astronaut. A bat clung to the side of the space shuttle Discovery on Sunday as it lifted off for its trip to the International Space Station. The bat apparently clung on for the ride of its life as the shuttle lifted off and accelerated to 17,500 miles per hour. Wow.

This is it folks. Chuck Norris has "claimed" his tears don't cure cancer -- and has gone on to sue the publisher that wrote a book listing other various Chuck Norris facts. Well I, for one, don't blame him. Just cancer? Hell no! His tears cure world hunger, AIDS and the Black Plague! Oh and in case you still want to see this book, here it is.

Pink Dolfins and Gay Ducks

I'm all for gay rights and what not. I've got no problems with that... as long as its not at the expense of your species. Three blue ducks in the UK were hanging out in a zoo, chillin', two being males and one female. Apparently she was the ugly duckling 'cause the two males fell for each other, there by putting the obscenely small population of blue ducks in the UK at risk. I say one of the males ought to take one for the team.

And did I mention the pink dolphin? Technically he's albino, but he's pink as a pink can be. I believe this is the first recorded case of an albino dolphin. Sweet!

As I was bumping around the BBC News website, I happened to across a couple very interesting articles. The first relates to new scientific breakthroughs and research being done for regrowing teeth. This would make dentures and thing of the past. I for one have broken a tooth or two in my time and would love to get rid of these veneers and have some whole teeth again.

And for the other, Quake. Most gamers have played a version of Quake or know someone that is utterly addicted to it. Thankfully, gamers will be able to get their fix anywhere thanks to new browser support for Quake III. That's right folks! Quake III will be able to be played online, and for free!

Weather Seeding

China has a history of weather seeding and trying to control their atmospheric environment, as noted by the preparation for the Olympics in Beijing. On a quick note, Beijing has been in a drought for nearly 40 years. Looks like they've done it. Yep. They were dinkin' around with their clouds and got a little more than they bargained for. Not only did it snow... but it ended up being enough to close down several of their major highways. I'm frankly rather impressed that it worked. I'm hoping it rains twenty dollar bills pretty soon. Lets get some weather seeding research done for that!

I find it impressive to rack up several tickets before the cops kinda go "huh... 17 outstanding, eh?" Makes you wonder how this guy, Prawo Jazdy, racked up 50 tickets in Ireland. Turns out "Prawo Jazdy" is Polish for Driving License. Oh I bet those cops felt like idiots when they figured that out.

Exciting right? Libraries always have a bit of charm to them. There's the smell, the ambience. The flip of a page, the hushed voices.

I like libraries. I enjoy walking along the shelves, running my fingers across book after book. I love standing at a shelf towering above me, loaded with pages and sheets, titles and authors. I'm not sure where this is, but this place is like a dream. Towering shelves! A painted ceiling! Gorgeous.

Robots ... In Your Face!

That's right folks! Come on down! Who wouldn't be able to resist the new and exciting possibilities provided by robotics? This isn't exactly Star Trek and we aren't exactly turning into the Borg (yet) but here is the next step. Scientists are working on implementing artificial muscles in the face to allow people with facial paralysis the ability to regain natural control over facial functions. Pretty cool!

Whether its the gritty feel of Rally Racing or the high performance, pushed-to-the-max F1, shows have dwindled, sponsors have bailed and things are getting too expensive.

Formula 1, in an effort to revitalize their market and level the playing field, has made some huge changes to their rules, their cars and the sport in general. And yes, I do happen to consider auto racing a sport!

No really. The weather is atrocious, unless you like that sort of thing. I just happen to be one of those that love the rain and storms and thundering weather. In fact, one could say it's raining cats and dogs (don't hate me). It makes a warm bowl of soup taste that much better. Having a cat of my own is the only excuse I can give for linking such an overly cute website here. Well, that and my addiction to StumbleUpon.

Despite my apparent addiction to writing, an addiction I still won't admit, I have trouble reading. When I try and read the news I get fascinated by the headline and the pictures, get a few lines in and then get bored or my attention gets diverted (I have a horrid attention span). Not all that long ago a website popped up in my browser that revolutionized the way I read the news. Each news article here is a series of images with small captions. Click on an image to read/view the rest of the article and you will be inundated with spectacular photographs from some of the best photojournalists of our time. Every story is gorgeous, raw and truly gives The Big Picture.

I've always said it. The Japanese are crazy ... crazy innovative! Here happens to be probably the smallest homes I've ever seen (can it be called a home?). It's an extremely compact and fully functional living space with an impressive array of utilities and function. If you really want to order one you can find them at their website, assuming you can read Japanese. These seem a little to claustrophobic for me.

As always, I have come across many links to my liking. As I continue through the drudgery of the day, my mind wanders endlessly only to be roped in and trampled by the new, the exciting and the few websites that catch my fancy. Here, I will post those few, those new and the exciting. Here lie the pages that pulled me from my wandering and gave me fuel for my pondering.

Tree houses have always been a passion of mine. I had one as a child. O.k., that is quite the understatement. Tree houses popped up just about everywhere I did. Some had secret doors, others rope elevators. Those were the luxuries of living in a heavily forested region; a region known as the redwood curtain. Well, now I'm grown and I have a busy life, but luckily there is a company looking out for me. With my upgraded life comes upgraded tree houses.
